What's the leaderboard for?

The leaderboard shows members with the highest Perplex City points. You acrrue points from solving puzzle cards or solving our online puzzles.

How many points do I need to get to a higher level?

Everyone starts on the Red level to begin with. Here are the points thresholds for the higher levels:

  • Red: 0 to 1,999 points
  • Orange: 2,000 to 4,999 points
  • Yellow: 5,000 to 14,999 points
  • Green: 15,000 to 34,999 points
  • Blue: 35,000 to 69,999 points
  • Purple: 70,000 to 119,999 points
  • Black: 120,000 to 169,999 points
  • Silver: 170,000+
  • Gold New special level. How you achieve it is a mystery.

Why can't I see my rank?

Your Season 2 rank will only be displayed when you achieve more than 1000 points.

We'd like to be able to show rank for points below this floor level but we tried this and found that our abacus was in serious danger of over-heating due to the volume of computations - so if you've not reached that yet, get solving and your rank will magically appear.

Whats the maximum number of points you can get for solving a single puzzle?

Some of our most challenging and rare puzzles can earn you up to 999 Perplex Points for a single solve.

Where can I buy Perplex City puzzle cards from?

All good games retailers including Borders and Firebox. Please check out the Buy tab for more retailers.

I took part in the puzzle creator beta. Where's my puzzle?

Puzzles submitted form this are being selected to appear on the community site and we're also launching new tools for you to create and share your puzzles. But it's not ready just yet. Check our todo list for more information.

I love your puzzles, can i use them on my blog?

We're still working on tools to allow puzzlers to use puzzles on their blogs and web sites but it's not ready yet.

Perplex City Cards

How many cards are out now?

Season 2 cards will be in the shops from March 1st 2007. You can still buy, solve and collect Season 1 cards and input on to the portal. However, the main leaderboard will only include Season 2 Card solves and solves you make on the site.

What do the wave numbers mean?

The 256 cards that will make up the new season 2 of Perplex City cards are being released in three separate waves. The first wave consists of 84 cards and will be released on 1st March 2007.

When will the next wave of cards be released?

Future wave release dates will be confirmed in the near future.

I received a lot of duplicate cards - why?

The rarity of cards is linked to their difficulty, which means that easy cards are far more common than difficult cards. When more puzzle cards are released, duplicates should be less likely. In addition, we will be slightly altering the relative rarity of cards in future print runs to try and reduce the number of duplicates people receive.

What is the silver scratch-off panel on the cards for?

Underneath the panel is a twelve character unique ID (UID) for that card. You can use this UID in order to solve cards and claim points online. The scratch off panel will come in handy when you are trading cards. If it is intact you know for certain that the person you are trading with has not already claimed the Perplex Points for that particular puzzle.

How many chances do I have to solve a card?

If you submit three incorrect solutions, then you won't be allowed to submit another solution for 24 hours. This is to prevent people from just repeatedly guessing an answer. After the 24 hours have passed, you can have another three tries, and so on.

Are you sure you've got the answer right for a card?

Here are some things you should bear in mind when answering a card:

  • All answers are case insensitive - this means that we treat "Perplex City" the same as "perplex city" when you enter it as an answer.
  • If you're writing a sentence, please make sure you put a space after commas and other punctuation.
  • Please double-check your spelling before you hit the submit button.
  • Please make sure you follow any instructions on the solve page for a particular puzzle.

Can I get a hint for a card?

We're sorry, our hints service has now been discontinued. You can find hints and tips for Season 1 and Season 2 cards in our forums and on Perplex City fan sites - please visit our community page for relevant links and information.
