hmmm, i get the feeling we will never get a full solve for this (maybe there is no full solve to be had)

Maybe not, but I'm convinced there's more to this card than we've so far deduced.
The "spaceships" are just too detailed to be merely symbolic. My money's still on

Spoiler: (highlight to read)

a piece of music

but it may "simply" be a code...

That was my first thought, but

The known answer isn't represented.

I suppose it could be a reference to what's missing, but that seems overly obscure to me.
The music reference seems difficult enough, and this is "only" a black...

Yes, that is the problem. I was looking at this (thanks Season 1 card C 234.23 F 38.34 or whatever!).

I really do think

Spoiler: (highlight to read)

it is a piece of music or something. It fits with the theme and the title. The architect also did Spin Me Round which is also musical, if I remember correctly.

But yes, it does seem overly difficult for a black. But then I think of Season 1 Mother Tongue and Master of Secrets...

I don't think

Spoiler: (highlight to read)

it's a cipher. The pattern doesn't seem right. I've also tried to make questions based on the answer, but nothing quite fits. Of course that isn't proof it is not, but it does shape my gut feeling.

Can we have a hint as to what the answer is?

I have an idea of what this card represents, i.e. how to solve properly.

Spoiler: (highlight to read)

If you look at the size of the circles on the left side of each "ship" and treat larger circle as lower pitch notes, smaller circles being higher pitched notes. Then you get the first few bars of the theme tune to a late 70's sci-fi TV series. Imagine the notes to be trumpet sounds for good effect. I'm guessing other aspects of the "ships" might represent note lengths and possibly percussion.

Always meant to make a final post with my last attempt, but what I came up with was similar to what you have, trk:

Spoiler: (highlight to read)

Larger circles are lower pitch, smaller circles are higher. For the valves, UUU is higher than DUU. As for the length, originally I thought longer ones were lower pitch, but now I think the length has to do with the length of the note. I also think the size of the flare at the end does not matter.

I got several musical scores with this, but couldn't match them to anything. I don't suppose you can tell me what 70's show this is, trk?

Just got the solve on my first try, would this card relate to...

Spoiler: (highlight to read)

Battlestar Galactica?
