Ok, how about the numbers being
Spoiler: (highlight to read) related to the E numbers used in smarties. On one website I found these numbers that were apparently used: 171,104,124,110,122,133,120. That's seven numbers, it would have been even better if there were 8... I was thinking that each of the numbered horizontal or diagonal rows 1-7 (and P) could maybe generate one of these numbers? Though I've just had this thought so I have not done any maths yet... because it's too late. |

Has anyone investigated the UFO angle of this card?
It does look like a landing UFO viewed from below, and there is a space background. Doing a search on the title together with UFO brings up quite a number of results (it is a common phrase used of both "sides" in the UFO debate). Hope this spark a debate here

Has anyone tried a caesar shift of 4 on the middle letters?

Im starting to think this is one of two things:
Spoiler: (highlight to read)
We should definately check for anything hidden (ink, hidden pics, etc), since finch puzzles tend to have something strange or hidden in them. |

From wiki:
In February 2005, the Smarties tube was replaced with a hexagonal design. The rationale behind changing the design was, according to Nestle, to make the brand "fresh and appealing" to youngsters; the new packaging is also lighter and more compact. The last 100 tubes to leave the factory in York had a certificate inside them. |

They made them hexagonal and entirely cardboard because a french child choked to death on the old plastic pop-off lid.
My dad works at the factory

Oddly enough, never thought to ask him (he mainly works in Kit Kat and generally hates Nestlé).
You never know, it could be something to do with the machines that make them or something daft like that! I'll see him on Christmas Day, if not tomorrow. I'll see if it means anything to him. (If it is something that specific it'd be a pain for anyone else to solve through ordinary means!) |

My initial thinking on this card was nothing to do with Smarties.
The letter choices of P and AP suggested to me immediately.... Spoiler: (highlight to read) Perigee and Apogee
I wonder if anyone else has explored this avenue? |

I agree with AndyAndy - though I have been looking in a slightly different arena based on the background of the card
Spoiler: (highlight to read) I believe that Smarties do have the answer - it's an anagram for Asterism. I have been looing at crystalline structure based on the rays that appear in the background. The only disconnect is that mineral asterisms usually result in a 4-way or 6-way "star." Perhaps the comets may have a better result. |

A quick Google-fu resulted in the astronomy definition of asterism:
Spoiler: (highlight to read) "A conspicuous pattern of stars that happen to be arranged in a familiar shape is sometimes given a proper name but does not make up an official constellation." More Googling mentioned the Spoiler: (highlight to read) great celestial conjunction cross which is an important Mayan symbol...information
