I don't get it.. does it have something to do with light, or the sequences?

Couple of hints:

Spoiler: (highlight to read)

Light isn't important, but sequence is a key word, think about what properties the various shapes have.

A BIG hint for those who are stuck.

Spoiler: (highlight to read)

Look at the number of sides each shape has. Is there a pattern? Which would come next in the sequence?

For what it is worth, my big mistake was

Spoiler: (highlight to read)

to assume the numbers were part of the problem, when they are in fact just the order the shapes go in...
Doh is I think the appropriate comment...

Once I got past this hurdle, it was actually OK

what?

Spoiler: (highlight to read)

1,1,2,3,5,8? do i just add them together to make the sequence, eg 5+8=13?

I'll add and say

Spoiler: (highlight to read)

'sequence' is important, maybe a particularly well known one

Linkn, you are on the right track. Google that sequence of numbers and you'll see its not just a bunch of "random" numbers.
