I am also stumped ... not sure where to start really. Has it got anything to do with the guy Eric who designed this puzzle?

A (perhaps subtle) hint on this one:

Spoiler: (highlight to read)

Take a good close look at the portrait...you'll need to see the trees, not the forest, to get this one.

First time I looked at the card I recognized who it was. Anyone else able to do the same?

I thought maybe it was the creator of ASCII text, Ken Knowlton, but that doesn't seem to be it.

He does portraits of mathmaticians and scientists in ASCII now, as well as other art, but it is not him. He might have composed this image, though.

Although negative, I hope that helps someone else.

I solved it,

Spoiler: (highlight to read)

thanks to Ken Knowlton, who did compose a portrait of the person pictured.

Good Luck!

Semi-hint:

The photo the ascii image is based on is also used in this person's wikipedia entry, so it's good place to verify your guesses.

Good one, I like this one.

If you want to try a different approach, here is a hint...

If Ken Knowlton doesn't help much, perheaps the right ear will

The face I can see, the words I can find.

The name of this person however is driving me insane. (laughing)

I have tried most of the famous american inventors of course to no avail, I think I might have missed something here.

I thought it was an artist then, because of the card title, but now I'm not sure, and I'm stuck for names.

You don't have to be a genius to solve this card, but it might help to know the definition.
