This card will be very difficult if you do not understand cricket. I wont give the answer but to help:
a bowler bowls 6 balls from one end of the wicket and this makes an over, the next bowler bowls the next over from the other end, and this continues until team at bat are all out. an M on the bowling figures means a Maiden Over, no wicket taken and no runs are scored in that over. hope this helps those struggling a bit. |

thanks andy,
bit rusty on that, but I found that a lot of the information on the card was not really of any consequence, just used the game procedure and logic. |

Hmmm One of these cards that you could 'guess' the answer without solving the puzzle. My first guess was correct, but still thinking out why it was him. (whoops! assuming this was not a women's team.)

What does it mean to "take a wicket" (as in, "Which bowler took the first wicket?")? I know I could just guess, but I'd like to solve it honestly. (Yes, this approach means it's taking me longer to work through the thick stack of cards still remaining!)
Thanks. |

the team in bat keep playing with 2 players batting at the wicket, one at each end. The whole team is out when 10 batsman are out as you have to have 2 players in bat and there are 11 in a team.
when a player is caught out, bowled out, run out, or LBW, that is called taking a wicket (the wicket being the 3 stumps with a bail resting on top of them that the batter is trying to defend). hope this is some help |

The trick to remember with bowling in cricket, is that the bowling alternates ends after every over of 6 balls is bowled.
This means that there is never a difference of more than 1 over, bowled from each end. |

I also guessed at the answer, and got it correct first time.
Although I guessed, I chose the bowler for the following reasons Spoiler: (highlight to read) I took a chance that one of the two bowlers with the largest number of wickets would be the bowler to have claimed the first wicket.
I didn't have the patience to work through the figures, but this worked fine for me. |

Talking of cricket, (and being a South Africa fan,) I did this card in front if the ICC world cup.
I used the same method as Sloth007. Anyone doing this card, can get it in 4 guesses anyway, (like Gravity, S1!), so its quite easy. Tom |

A belated thanks for all your help cricketers. We're getting cricket more often on TV here, and now that I have a better understanding of the game, I'm actually going to tune in!

Can anyone explain the title - Golden Duck? Is this a cricket term? Thanks.

I know nothing about cricket, but I think you use the term when a batsman is bowled out before he makes a run and also before he hits the ball. Like I said, I only have vague knowledge of the rules but I think that's about right. |
