Is the word ladder thing where you start with a word then, by changing one letter at a time, create new words to reach a final word e.g.

Help! Still stuck. I understand a word ladder, just struggling to find the starting words. There does not seem to be enough vowels. Any advice please?

I think:
Spoiler: (highlight to read) the letter you change is on the ladder, and you have to work out one end or something... Any hints
