Gee thanks, Andy...that shows SO much more.

Still looks like a tool set to me. And with that, I'm simply out of guesses about metal arms with slotted nipples set atop a round metal construction covered with some gooplike plastic.

Wait, wait...is it a pair of wierd high-tech pincers plucking a tiny UFO out of someone's junk drawer?

You needn't count that as an actual guess...unless, of course, it would, God forbid, actually speed things along. It was simply (multiple choice)
a) lame sarcasm,
b) sheer frustration,
c) growing disinterest,
d) incipient dementia, or
e) all of the above.

Don't make me regret my decision to throw things your way instead of going with Cabbage, who, if I'd wanted to be shirty, actually nailed my answer. As you'll see if you watch the upcoming Beijing Olympics, the landing counts.

Sorry if it doesn't give you the answer straight away, MM, but there is an extra visual clue in the second picture.
(... and I won't count your guess!)

right I am going to go with a centrafuge (ok not an everyday onject but maybe slightly more likely than an alien tool found at the back of the knife draw !!??)

Or somekind of cotton reel bobbin winder thing (is that too precise a guess not sure) ( you know it is nice to use the word bobbin it has a good ring to it )

Interesting guesses but it's nothing to do with a centrifuge or cotton bobbins. ( 2 )

OK, sadly lacking any decent guesses here, and admittedly not even understanding some of the previous guesses, i'll come right out and say what i think it may be,

The inner workings of a pinball machine.

Not a guess (I meant it when I said I'm out of those), merely an observation...but doesn't the slotted nipple look rather like the hat game piece that comes with some versions of Monopoly?

That said, yes, AAO, I DID notice the new pic shows there's two of the armatures...and up in the right-hand corner, something that looks like a hex key...or perhaps merely a squared off whatchamacallit. I'm observant--just clueless and cranky.

Well whether it was a guess or not, I'll post the final picture. This will either confuse you more, or make it clear to someone what it is!

It looks like one of those things that holds bottles of alcohols so you can pour accurate measures.
There is probably a proper name for them though.
