I take it that the "mini question" isn't anything to do with the names of the cows, and more to do with their location?

It suddenly clicked last night what I had to do. Can't believe it took me so long. I've been half way there for a while, just couldn't read the first and last bits properly.

I'm almost certain I know what the lower two groups of cows represent. It's the first group that perplexes me.

this one annoyed me because i kept thinking i saw 22 in the top pen, but really you need to consider the slight upward slopes on both of the digits and think less calculator digits and more traditional

So should we be viewing it from the perspective of the guy asking us the question (i.e. inside the pen on the right side) or from the card readers perspective (outside the pen at the bottom)?

And does each cow's pose or direction they're looking matter?

Nope, try to ignore details. The hint i got was to imagine you were 5 years old, what would you want to do with those cows. Try modelling them as dots, he he.
