Here is a community-based project for fans of Perplex City. You can submit puzzle ideas, design puzzles and solve them with regular updates, leaderboards and rankings.
The project now has a blog which is below: http://pxpuzzles.blogspot.com SUBMISSIONS The submission process is simple, and a way of keeping all of the suits, numbers waves, design consistency and quality in check. All you need to do is email the puzzle (in the proportions of the content area) to my email address: chaosseven@gmx.com If there any problems we will email you back. Suits and numbers may change to keep a diverse range of puzzles within suits to keep things interesting, so we will tell you if we decide that there has been a shift. Below there is a PNG format template for you guys to get the dimensions right (The black bit is meant to be the shadow). There is also an all-new PDF Creation Guide so you can get all the information you need off-hand and in an easy to use layout. There is also a Design Guide to help you get to grips with Inkscape and help you effectively design your card. SOLVING To solve, you will need to email Croc Stock at: crocstock@gmx.com THE NEW DESIGN GUIDE HAS BEEN ADDED! This new version is much easier to find all the information you need and includes more and better Inkscape Tutorials. Please Note that the PM system on this forum will not be used.

If I had any sort of artistic style at all, I'd love to contribute. Though if anyone was willing to translate some of my projects to the right format I certainly wouldn't complain.
Either way, I need to work on figuring out how to translate http://www.welovepuzzles.com/permalink/puzzle/23637/ to that format. Especially since, once the multiple choice answer system is gone, the correct answer would be something different from those four choices entirely. |

If you want to put it into a vector format, use Inkscape. It is a free open source vector graphics editor that's relatively easy to use, especially with experience. It's also available on all mainstream operating systems. Mac OS X versions older than Leopard will need X11 installed. http://inkscape.org On the other hand, I know that Croc would definitely design it if you don't want to. @ Everyone I am also starting to build the blog. it is by no means done, so watch this space: http://pxcproject.blogspot.com/ |

I'll look into downloading that, though downloads are always iffy things on my molassesque dial-up connection.
And I wouldn't be opposed to Croc designing it if I can't figure out how to get Inkscape to work out. (Incidentally, I just did some poking around and found an art program on my computer called Art Rage 2 that I'd forgotten about. Don't suppose that's vector based, is it? )

I have a bunch of puzzles I could easily move to this format (they are already in photoshop format), although I've already published them here in the multiple choice format. I've also put them in a blog with hints and the answers, so I don't know if that would ruin the spirit of this project. I do, however, have another dozen or so puzzles on deck that I can contribute, if I ever get time to draw them up.
Any thoughts about submitting old puzzles? |

Old Puzzles are fine, but use your best. Any more puzzles would be great. Right now I am collaborating with MJ on putting some of his best cards into new ones for the project. | |||||||||

Sadly I can't seem to get the program to download for me. If I contribute at all, it'd have to be at Croc's convenience, I guess.
The difficulties in format is why I'm only submitting that one puzzle of mine. It's one of the only ones where I can realistically do a different answer other than the multiple choice one without actually needing to change a thing. |

The blog is nearly done, but in the meantime, I have posted all of the completable and finalised cards onto it.
http://pxcproject.blogspot.com It have improved it with a tagging system to identify the types of puzzles. I will continue to improve it with leaderboards and first solves list (And hopefully more puzzles!) There is also a cards in progress section, to avoid people making the same puzzles and to build some interest over developments. So if anybody has solid in-development cards (names can change), you can PM/email me with the name and the creators/designers. |

I'll see if I can submit some of my completed puzzles before I take off for vacation tomorrow. I want to contribute to this already great looking set of cards.
As for other suits, you can take a look at my cards from the link to my puzzle blog below in my signature. I was using pi-s (yes, 3.14...), atoms, and penrose tiles. In the future I was going to add Koch snowflakes as well or some other simple fractal curve. |

Hey, sorry I haven't posted in a while. I would be happy to do your puzzle Afgncaap5 as long as you explain more in detail about the puzzle you wanted to be made into a card as although I understand the theme of the puzzle (Big fan of it, still grinds me today too) but I don't understand some of the components.
With anyone else I can also properly publish peoples ideas with the same full credit. Im not as adept as Chaos and tend and I do less trendy, more serious styles (have a look at Episode 1 and Flat-Packed) but I can still create professional cards. PS: Fixing Episode 1 tonight for anyone who is solving it, sorry for the delay! |

Guys,
This is looking great, very professional, just the sort of thing I had hoped for. I'm not sure how your leaderboard is working at the mo, if you could only get Mind Candy to lend you the coding for their "unofficial official Perplex City S2W2 Card Solver" then we could all register our user names and start solving and gaining points which could be totted up in your blog by a macro like the S2W2 one on here (saving you all the work. Note: I'm no techhie). How are you determining card colour/level of difficulty? Are you leaving this up to card designers? EDIT: I guess you are leaving it up to us. Will you be awarding points to the creators of cards? Will you be awarding extra points (to card creators) for wrong answers? Or will these things got too complicated and its best to keep it simple? I'm not sure I'm clear about the border/suit/template issue, are you superimposing the correct colour template on to submitted images? Edit: I guess you only want the puzzle image. I really should read things through before I post. lol. This would certainly make things easier for designers and allow you to manipulate suits and colours while keeping things tidy! Its looking good so far. I like the quality check idea. keep up the good work. This might start to get legs if we can get more people involved. |

Thanks, it's nice to see more interest in this project as I thought this forum was pretty much dead. As for your questions...
Our leaderboard works solely for the puzzles; puzzle architects and designers gain their own recognition through the blog and the cards which has their signatures on them. The difficulty is originally decided by the creator but if we feel there is a problem with this then we will discuss and come to an agreement. When a larger community is formed we will implement a peer review system which will more accurately determine the difficulty for us. With the templates, the illustrations are firstly sent to us and when moderated, are arranged behind a card template and are then submitted. I doubt we could obtain the coding for the S2W2 website (at this stage anyways) and although we have tools to design website, we have no coding expertise whatsoever except for the tweaks Chaos made on the blog so we would need external support to make that happen. Chaos is making a guide which will replace the first post and will include extra details like the point boundaries and tips for making and submitting cards. @Everyone there are new cards collaborated by mj2303 and ChaosSeven on the blog to solve! |

I think there are enough people on here who could help you code a leaderboard, there have been two unofficial ones posted on the forum thus far. Got to say again...Looking good. |

In regards to #162 - Flat-Packed, does anyone think the difficulty needs to be raised or is this puzzle just generally unsolvable? I would appreciate any solve attempts and feedback for this card.
Also, #102 - Episode 1 - The Chase has been updated and is perfectly solvable! You can find it on the blog. Im currently going through all solves from the 2nd May and will update this information on the forums and blog. EDIT: On the blog the new leaderboard has been calculated and I have set up a spreadsheet to calculate positions easily. |
