Rotek... I'm right there with you. Thank (insert supernatural all-knowing creator type being of your choice here) this week is coming to an end.
The Social The Daily Puzzle Thread #3497
I have found the Kakuro's to be the harder of dailys... probably since I'm horrible with math (even the easy stuff). However, I spent some time reading through the instructions and studying the section on what adds to what (29 in 4, 34 in 5, etc) and they got a ton easier. This one filled in like a Soduku.

The following is may sound like a rant. It is not intended as such. And I apologize in advance if it comes across that way to anyone.

Could the Bugs thread be split in two? One for "user specific bugs" and one for "Site/Universal Bugs?" I read through 13 pages of bugs to determine if something had been mentioned prior to posting and read through a lot of things such as "I didnt get points for X daily puzzle" for example. While I whole heartedly understand how missing 25-35 points is very frustrating and irratating to those that are affected, it seems to me that these are probably person specific, while the "Bugs" thread should be more "general site issues" (ie "Universal Bugs") such as bad links and the card solve issue relating to IE 7 that was brought up when the site went live. That way, when posting issues, it is easier to determine if the problem you are experiencing has been mentioned before and easier for Mind Candy to determine where the big (as in: mass user) problems are that need to be addressed.

wow... reading through 13 pages of bugs to make sure yours isnt there is almost mind-numbing... what was my problem again?... oh, thats right..

I log in. I link to the forums from the main page, through the links for the latest disscussions. When I arrive in at the forums I have been logged out (ie the top right of the page reverts to the "Have an account? Sign in / register format and not "username" blah blah blah). I cannot access PM Box, or see which threads have new posts since my last visit unless I go back, and re-enter the forums through the communities tab. Not really a huge deal... just inconvienient (sp?) and wanted to point it out.

And, if possible, could you fix my clothes dryer... it ate another sock today.

The Social Card Backs and Stories Speculation #2023
Ok... we're about 2 weeks out or so from the assumed start of PXC Stories, and I thought I might start speculating on some things. Not that there's a lot to go on, but that's why its speculation. And its posted in the social because... well... we don't have anywhere else for it... yet.

If your like me, you have watched the intro movie at www.perplexcitystories.com about a dozen times or so. You have probably guessed that the first "story" is a murder mystery of sorts (someone is killed anyway). Here comes the speculation...

When the "News at the Point" breaks in, the lady anchor gives her name as Alice Marker (although, being American, the accent throws me a bit and I think this could be Alice Maker). When Alice is handed new "information and pictures" she goes through what can only be described as a total freak out. The male anchors reaction is not nearly as dramatic, although admittedly he doesn't get a good luck at the photos, since Alice drops them. So imagine what my brain did a few days ago when I got my first shipment of Season two cards (finally) and among them was #135 - The Cats of Harbin. The back of this card is what made the wheels spin. The back tells the story of researcher Wendy Maker (possible relation to the reporter explaining her reaction), who stumbles on unexpected resistance to her discovery from the locals. And when she dies, it is claimed to be undiagnosed Morgan's Syndrome. And the back of #97 lets us know that a cure to Morgan's may have been found (by our old friends at Cogniva, no less) that requires a dangerous cortex implant.

If nothing else... we may have the victims identity (Wendy), motive (findings at her research site), and introduction to a possible conspiracy (cognivia cover-up). I don't have all that many cards, and could (probably) be way off base. But hey... its fun. And I didn't get to do a lot for Season 1, as far as the ARG went, so I'm over excited. Let me know what you think.

Season 2 #135 - Cats of Harbin (blue dice) #1827
While I know that this thread is focused on solving the card, I cant help but make an assumption on something from the back. (preface: it is still way to early to know anything about what is going to happen for sure).

On the stories site intro movie, when the newscast breaks in the lady reporter identifies herself as Alice Maker (could be Marker, my silly american accent confuses me here). And judging by her reaction to the information and pictures she receives, she knows the person killed at the bar. Any possible relation then to Wendy Maker, the dead lady mentioned on the back of the card? To early to speculate?

Someone told me that that there wasn't really an end goal for Oblivion. He made it sound like you just wander around and do whatever. as much as I like side trips, I like to feel like I'm making progress towards an end. Can those of you who are familiar with the game comment on this?

While I cant say that I have played Oblivion, it is very similar to Morrowind, at least format wise and according to the reviews I have seen. If the reports are true then the answer to your question is both yes and no. Yes, there is a main story line that will eventually come to an "end." But no, there is no definitive end to the game on the whole. Even after you "beat it" (read as: complete the main story) you are allowed to keep playing, completing side quests and doing guild/faction work. It is a "free form" game in that there is nothing forcing you to do anything at any particular pace or in any certain direction. In short, do what you want, when you want, how you want, for as long as you want. And like I said, you will reach an end, per se, but that doesn't mean the game is over.

I have a couple different catagories for good gaming. Games you commit too and games you just fool around with.

The Commitment:
The Final Fantasy series is generally solid game playing (minus that silly X-2). I still havent finished 10 (dont know if I ever will) and I think I am closing in on finishing 12 (whether or not I finish it is a different issue.
And I second the Edler Scrolls comments. I havent played Oblivion since I have a wussy little PC, but I wont even begin to try and count the hours I logged playing Morrowind.
Anything in the Zelda series (I played the GC version of TP).

The Hook-ups (must continue the metaphor):
God of War (GoW II in 5 days)
Katamari Damacy
Dungeon Siege II

I'm Kevin, From Lawrence KS, US. (Just outside of Kansas City if anyone is in the area, or just curious). I found PXC midway through season 1 but stayed on the outskirts since I figured the cube would be across the pond, and it was hard to find cards. I am really looking forward to being involved with season 2, although cards are even harder to find now (blast you EB Games!), put at least I'll be in from the begining.
