It really is quite an easy puzzle. The two important bits are; Understanding the diagram, which is quite hard. Then the words '...attach to each other and either side of the engine'. That's the key.

there's lots of manouvering and don't forget that you can use ALL of the track in the picture.

The wide thing to the right is the tunnel and the line at the top is the footbridge.
