			<p>I thought maybe it was the creator of ASCII text, Ken Knowlton, but that doesn't seem to be it. </p>
		</div> He does portraits of mathmaticians and scientists in ASCII now, as well as other art, but it is not him.  He might have composed this image, though.

I have tried most of the famous american inventors of course to no avail, I think I might have missed something here.
