Re: #176 - Oni (purple Tetris)

Well, i thought i'd cracked it. Apparently not!

My workings -

Spoiler: (highlight to read)

Looking at the puzzle logically i can see 5 different types of square. The 'normal' ones, of which i can count 63 (also stated in the question).

Then the diamond ones. I get 2 large, 10 medium and 24 small. 36 total.

Then the harder to see trio. I call the first set the 2x1's. I can see 4 on the top line, and 8 each on the 3 lines beneath that, 28 total.

The 3x1's. I've got 2 on the top line, and 6 each on the 2 lines beneath that. 14 total.

Finally, the 4x1's. Only 4 of these.

Unless my maths is failing me, i make that a grand total of 145. This is wrong.

So am i missing a whole group of squares, or am i missing some individual squares which fit in one of the above brackets?

Help please!

i'm obviously missing how
Spoiler: (highlight to read)

I'm sure it has something to do with the
Spoiler: (highlight to read)

i think they are referring to gradients, not dimensions. As in a square which has a side which spans 3 horizontally and 1 vertically, or there might be some that span 2 horizontally and 3 vertically etc.

Basically you have to find the hidden ones, with sides that arent parallel to the horizontal/vertical directions

Imagine the square has vertices at 2, ^, 5, (. That's what i call a 3x1, i.e 3x3 but 1 step out. There's probably a technical term for it, but i don't know it so made up my own jargon :D
